What is a DWR?
The 100% recycled 3-layer fabric features a membrane designed to provide waterproof and breathable properties.
The fabric is finished with a C0 DWR treatment that contains no intentionally added fluorinated compounds. The durable water-repellent finish helps water roll off the outer fabric and supports the water-repellent properties of the garment.
Why do I need to refresh the DWR?
After extended outdoor use, the water-repellent properties of the DWR finish may gradually diminish. It is possible that the outer fabric will begin to absorb moisture over time. The membrane between the outer and inner layers remains unaffected. If you notice that the outer fabric is absorbing moisture, this is a sign that the DWR finish should be refreshed
Option 1: Heat
You can reactivate the water-repellent properties of the DWR finish by applying heat. Place your garment in a tumble dryer on low heat for 20–30 minutes. Alternatively, you can carefully iron the fabric on the lowest heat setting. Place a thin cloth between the garment and the iron to protect the material.
Option 2: DWR Wash-in
If the fabric starts to absorb water on the surface, a suitable aftercare treatment can be used to refresh the water-repellent finish. We recommend Nikwax TX.Direct® Wash-In, which can be applied easily in a washing machine.
