We at ION believe that limits are defined mostly by an individual’s skills and passion. Wind and weather are barriers that we can overcome. Therefore, we provide you with the gear to find - and exceed - your own limits. We support all of you in fulfilling your dreams and your desires on the water, on the slopes and in the air. But when our planet is not healthy, we are confronted with other insuperable limits. We see it as our mission to counteract this development by helping to keep the sea and the air clean and our earth healthy.
Start of the partnership. The first SASTEC Pad was used for our Knee Pads.
Drirelease fabric is used in our first SCRUB bike tops
The outerwear styles of the bikewear collection are made completely without C8 DWR Finish
Drirelease Geocool and Drirelease with REPREVE recycled Polyester is introduced in our Scrup Tops
Production facility in Italy is producing the tight fit bike styles. A big part of the ION Apparel Production is shifted from China to Turkey
For the first time the SEEK Line is developed as the most sustainable line by using organic cotton and/or recycled polyester
R&D introduces recycled polyester instead of virgin polyester across selected styles
Change of packaging from dyed black carton quality to natural recycled carton quality for all protective gear categories
Change of hashtags from dyed black carton quality to natural recycled carton quality for all categories
Introduction of the "Save Our Playgrounds" initiative to ION Bike
S.café finish is introduced in the Scrub Line Scrup Select Longsleeve is the first product in this collection, using only C0 DWR finish
Shelter Line products using mainly C0 DWR finish
Merino blend is introduced to the baselayer line
Certified recycled polyester or recycled polyamide content increases
We offset the complete carbon footprint of our SS23 collection with the help of ClimatePartner.

ION is continuously sourcing for new, innovative and more sustainable materials. We are committed to avoiding the use of harmful chemicals by opting for approved materials and suppliers. The majority of our fabric manufacturers are bluesign® and Ökotex 100 certified.
MERINO WOOL
We are using a 50/50 blend of merino wool & polyester. Using a 50/50 Merino mixture allows us to get the best out of this natural fabric.
Our base layers dry significantly faster, resist higher mechanical strain, and are easier to care for than a 100% Merino composition. Other than that, our base layers take advantage of the classic features of Merino wool:
– Renewable & natural fiber
– Highly breathable
– Antibacterial & odor neutral
– Moisture regulation: absorbs moisture without feeling damp & transports it away from the body
– Provides good UV-protection
RESPONSIBLE WOOL STANDARD (RWS)
The Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) is an industry tool designed to recognize the best practices of farmers, ensuring that wool comes from farms with a progressive approach to managing their land, and from sheep that have been treated Responsibly. As this is only a blend we can’t use any logos for the RWS (just as info)- only in the text as such
Protecting Animal Welfare
The Five Freedoms of sheep are protected at all times, referencing standards and best practices around the world.
Preserving Land Health
Progressive methods of land management are practiced on RWS farms, protecting soil health, biodiversity and native species.
Chain of Custody
Certification ensures that the identity of the RWS wool is maintained at all times: from the farm to the final product.
Credible Certification
A professional, third-party certification body audits each stage in the supply chain.
Confident Communication
Only products with 100% certified wool may carry the RWS logo.
Stakeholder Engagement
The RWS was developed with the input of farmers, animal welfare experts, land conservation experts, brands and retailers from all parts of the globe
We see it as our mission to counteract the development of environmental pollution by helping to keep the sea and the air clean and our earth healthy. Therefore we decided to supporting organizations that fight global warming.
So we started to calculate and offset the carbon emissions caused by our products and processes by supporting recognized carbon offset projects. Besides avoidance and reduction, offsetting carbon emissions represents an additional important step in comprehensive climate protection.
Greenhouse gases like CO2 disperse uniformly throughout the atmosphere, which means the concentration of greenhouse gases is approximately the same all over the planet. Thus, the location on Earth where emissions are generated or saved is irrelevant when it comes to the global concentration of greenhouse gases and the greenhouse effect. That is why emissions that cannot be avoided locally can be mathematically offset through climate protection measures at another location.
We take these efforts very seriously because we are responsible for ensuring that also future generations can experience the stoke of surfing elements.
From 2023 – including the recent launched Shelter range - onwards our whole product range will be 100% carbon compensated. We are offsetting our CO2 emissions caused by production and transport of our products, by supporting clean energy in Gujarat (India) and improving livelihoods trough afforestation in Huangping (China) – supported by ClimatePartner. The entire process is transparent and traceable thanks to the ClimatePartner label and certificate, so we invite you to learn more about it.
Carbon offset projects demonstrably save greenhouse gases through activities such as afforestation or renewable energies. Independent organizations such as TÜV, SGS, PwC, and others check the exact volume saved. The project operator can finance the project through the sale of certified emission reductions. Only projects requiring additional financial support are recognized as carbon offset projects.
Carbon offset projects must meet internationally recognized standards. The most important criteria here are:
It must be ensured that the project can only be realized if it receives additional financing through emissions trading. This means the project must be reliant upon emissions trading in order to cover its financial needs.
It must be ensured that the carbon emissions saved are only counted once — by the certificate owner. In particular, this means that certificates may only be sold once and then have to be retired.
Emissions savings must take place permanently. For example, carbon sequestration in forests must be long-term in nature. A reforested area that is turned back into a livestock pasture through slash-and-burn farming a few years later cannot receive recognition as a carbon offset project.
Carbon offset projects must be audited in regular intervals according to the criteria listed above. Independent third parties such as TÜV, SGS, or PwC perform these audits. Audits like these retroactively determine the actual volume of carbon emissions saved.
Companies, processes and products are termed "climate compensated" when their carbon emissions have been calculated and offset by supporting recognized carbon offset projects. Besides avoidance and reduction, offsetting carbon emissions represents an additional important step in comprehensive climate protection.
Our products are rendered climate compensated in three steps:
We have calculated the relevant carbon emissions of our company, reduced them as much as possible, and calculated the emissions generated by our products.
The product carbon footprint is calculated based on factors such as raw materials, production, and logistics. In addition we take our general business activities into account, such as administration and business travels.
Carbon offset projects save or sequestrate emissions through measures such as afforestation or the replacement of fossil fuel technologies through innovative, climate-friendly alternatives. By supporting one of these projects, you can offset the carbon emissions caused by the production, packaging and transportation of our products.
All projects are regularly audited by independent organizations and certified according to international standards, meaning that you can be sure the measures are being implemented on site.
You obtain full transparency thanks to the ClimatePartner label featuring a unique ID for your order: By entering the ID at www.climatepartner.com, you can find information on the quantity of emissions offset and the carbon offset project you are supporting.

As mountain bikers and outdoor enthusiast we feel connected to our mountains, local forest, oceans, lakes and rivers. To practice these sports that mean so much to us, we depend on our natural environment and in turn feel it is our responsibility to take care of it.
In 2022, we called on you to help us in a joint effort to save our playgrounds and clean up as much pieces of litter as possible. We have partnered up with Planet Patrol to track all global efforts of trash collected.
